IEEE WIE is one of the world’s leaders in changing the face of engineering. Our global network connects over 40,000 members in over 125 countries to advance women in technology at all points in their lives and careers.
The WIE Affinity Group of Hawaii aims to support women at all stages of their careers in the field of science and engineering through activities and the execution of projects, meetings and conferences.
The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) originally began as Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas. Sixteen women working in the construction industry founded it in 1953. Knowing that women represented only a small fraction of the construction industry, the founders organized NAWIC to create a support network.
The Honolulu Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction was chartered in 1965 to enhance the success of women in the construction industry. With membership reaching to other islands in Hawaii, NAWIC Hawaii became an official chapter in 2021!
About Us
Since 2019, our Meet-Up group has grown to over 400 women.
In 2023, our inaugural leadership team stepped forward, committed to sustaining and expanding our events and support.
We now offer an official, FREE HWIT Membership through our Glue Up platform!! Why free? Women continue to earn less than men and we want our group to be accessible - always.
Together, we aim to address the barriers hindering local women from securing careers in tech.
Our vision is for women to not only enter but thrive in tech through peer support and customized resources.
We are a grassroots, volunteer run organization.
Join us, volunteer, collaborate, support.
Half of all women with careers in tech leave by the age of 35. A 2020 report by Girls Who Code and Accenture found that the number one cause for the drop-off was culture: less-inclusive workplace cultures have a profound impact on women, and in particular on women of color and LGBTQ+ women.
The goal of Hawai’i Women in Tech is to provide a space for women to talk about our experiences; provide support and mentorship to each other; teach, learn, and grow; and to feel part of a community. Our hope is that our members will feel empowered from their experience in our group to flourish in their careers and help build more inclusive environments for all.
